About

Pete Bampton
My name is Pete. I’m originally from the UK but after years of travels both within and without, I can only relate to being a planetary citizen who now mysteriously finds himself in Portugal!
The wellspring of my life is a passion for the evolution of consciousness (which means you and me!) in all the dimensions that really matter. For me that means the mystery of who we really are as human beings, the depth and transparency of our relationships with each other and with our great Mother Earth.
For as long as I can remember I have been insatiably curious about the wonder of being alive, the beauty of this planet and the meaning of it all. Who am I? Why am I here? Where do we come from and where are we headed? How to live on this fragile planet in a way that takes responsibility for pioneering a positive alternative to the modern mess of materialism and narcissism?
I think that we are living in tipping point times and finding profound and practical answers to questions like these, for those of us you have the interest and innocence to ask them, is more essential than it has ever been. Hence my vision to create a beautiful place that will be a beacon where people can come to inquire, rejuvenate, celebrate, create, meditate, transform and learn about everything from their deepest potential as a human being to sustainable living systems to really interesting salad!
I don’t quite know how I ended up in the mountains of Central Portugal along with my wife Cynthia, but a mysterious intuitive thread has led us here. So now we both stand inspired before the immense task of reviving and molding the ruins of Quinta da Mizerela, first into a home, and then into a center of sorts for meditation/contemplation, authentic communication/relationship, permaculture/sustainability, natural health/healing and all manner of as-yet-unknown potentials for awakening to our True Nature as expressions of the Creative Source of All That Is.
Well that’s plenty to keep me busy for a while! So it’s one step at a time and I guess we’ll see how it all evolves…
Right now I’m busy sowing seeds amidst the singing sap of budding Spring J
If you are of like mind/spirit and would like to help in any way, please let me know!

Cynthia Bampton

Hello, My name is Cynthia. I’m originally from California and I’m married to a beautiful Englishman named Pete that you just met above.
From the moment I came to Central Portugal I absolutely loved it. There were the obvious reasons; the gorgeous scenery, the extremely friendly people, the slow moving way of life where people took the time to speak with one another, but it was mostly the stillness and quiet that I experienced all around me and within me that told me that this was the place!
So you may ask, the place for what? Well it’s funny because this has been an ongoing question between Pete and I. Before I answer it I need to back up a little to give you some context.
For over a year we were lucky enough to live in a quiet sanctuary in a valley with deafening silence. We were surrounded by plentiful gardens full of organic food, the Mediterranean Sea a 20 min. walk away and we were able to be there without all the distractions of the modern world. We found ourselves falling deeper and deeper into living a life of meditation and we blended in with the silence that was already there.
We knew that this year was a gift that had been given to us and that it wasn’t just for us. We didn’t exactly know what that meant but this much was clear. As friends came to visit us we became aware of the effect that this place and our way of being had on people. Nothing was imposed and everything flowed. We didn’t try to create anything or re-create what had happened with the people that had come before. Life was ever new and what emerged when people were given the space to ‘just be’ was quite beautiful.
So when we came to Central Portugal we knew we wanted to find a place where we could buy land, live off the grid, grow our own food, drink water fresh from the earth, breathe clean air and follow the thread that had been guiding us up to this point.
For me the main reason for coming here is to give back what I have been given. I want to give people a place where they can ‘just be’, where they have the right environment to re-connect with the deepest part of themselves. I want to create a place where one feels safe so one can slow down so much that the self-imposed gap between our own hearts and ourselves can be seen and start to close.
This place needed to have fresh air and water. It needed to have the bounty of life growing in the fields. It needed to be so quiet that one could hear the hum of ones own being interspersed with the song of nature, birds chirping, insects buzzing, the plants happily singing as they soaked up the sun.
‘Just being’ will look different for different people. Some people may want to sit quietly everyday, others may want to engage with the land, others may want to spend their day frolicking in the waterfalls that border the land. Who knows, I’m sure there will be many surprises! I can’t tell you how much joy I felt the first time I strimmed brambles away from a tree that was being engulfed or how much fun it is to split logs! If you told me a couple of years ago that I would enjoy these things I probably wouldn’t have believed you!
So my passion and purpose at this point in my life lies in helping to create this living adventure of stillness and creativity. The path will emerge as we walk it as it has always done and the place will be a reflection of the path.

Congratulations Pete and Cynth! A beautiful testament to the belief, Soul, love and care that you have been trusting, embodying, Living! This is very inspiring, a true beacon of Light for Planet Earth to proudly house . . . With fullness, emptiness and much love to you both and to all, Deanna X
Hi Cynthia,
Long time no hear. Thank you for this link. It seems like you’re making progress and are moving forward. Sounds lovely. Hope I can come by one day on my bike, but I’m not as “free” now when being married! Life’s been very busy here in London. The Aikido is great and my little group is a great source of inspiration. Also, the Church keeps the spirit filled. It is really lovely.
Have a look on this Zaadz site and sign up if you’d like. It could be a good site for your project?
Much love,
Bjorn

Hey guys - Jacqueline sent me a link to your blog and you both look great! I made a donation - plant a tree for me this Christmas. Love Jorin
Wow and Wow!
You are manifesting something very close to what I have planned for next year. I seem to be drawn to central Portugal so I can create my own little slice of self sufficient living for myself and my family.
I would love to hear any suggestions you have that could help us in our journey.
Please check out our blog for more info on our plan.
